I’m a 29 year old female who was originally diagnosed with mediastinal diffuse large b cell lymphoma in 2006.No family history of any type of cancer. I did six rounds of CHOP-R, which shrank the tumor from 14 cm to 2 cm. I did 3 rounds of maintenance rituxan and a PET scan showed the mass had grown to 5 cm, so I tried zevalin immunoradiotherapy. My most recent scan shows the mediastinal mass has grown about an inch and has also spread to my stomach and thyroid.
The oncologist wants to proceed with ICE chemotherapy but I wanted to know:
a. statistically, what are my odds of beating this at this point
b. if i decline treatment, how long would I live?

Long story short, my mom went into the hospital Monday with a fever and rash on her leg, along with other "minor" issues. It turned out to be cellulitis which she says has cleared up, but now they found a lump in her groin area. Mind you, she is battling her 5th diagnoses of metastatic breast cancer. She got an ultrasound this afternoon but said she won’t get the results until tomorrow. I’m no doctor but I have had ultrasounds and know it doesn’t take that long. I think she’s hiding something, but anyways…I’ve done quite a bit of research and can’t really see anything about it spreading to lymph nodes. Its already spread to her lungs, hip bone, other breast and now liver. The only other place it really talks about is spine/brain. Everything says lymphoma is rare but is stepping into reality, is it very possible that is spread to the lymph nodes?
Sorry it ended up being so long but I just want to know what I’m walking into this weekend when I go up to stay with her for a week or more. They won’t discharge her without me since she lives alone and needs someone 24/7. We live almost 300 miles apart so this is my first chance in a long time to actually be with her for more than a couple days and meet her doctors.
Any advice is appreciated, and please don’t sugarcoat anything.

I was recently diagnosed with non hodgkin’s lymphoma. I have seen statistics for 2009 and new cases were 65,980 and people who died from it in 2009 were 19,500. So it just seems like an awful lot of deaths. So I was just trying to figure this out the 19,500 people who died from it weren’t necessarily all included in the 65,980 they could have just been people who were terminal and diagnosed before or whose cancer came back? I just can’t find out anything about why 19,500 people died. Was it stage 4 or they weren’t responding to treatment or what? Also I can’t find any good statistics about the likelihood of it coming back once you’re in remission.

I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma currently and I’ve battled it twice before. I have been in remission after each new occurrence. The Hodgkin’s has come back in my abdomen and is stable. I have recently discovered that I have bone cancer in my leg. This is an entirely new cancer and not metastasized from the other. I am scared. What type of treatment is normal for this type of situation? Am I going to be able to come back from this?
